Default Thinking of picking up a cheap thermal..

Im more of an inkjet kind of guy, but I would really like to have a thermal machine around to do some white printing on clear and a few other things I cannot do with my Versacamm.

I know the edge is probably the best machine out, but that is way out of my prince range. Any suggestions on a good used machine for say around $1000-$3000. This machine would be used for small decals only.

I tried printing white (when it was first available) on colors with my ColorCamm, the quality was not that great. I have heard there has been alot of tweaking of the compisition of the white ribbons since, but I never had very good results.

$.02

I understand only the PC600 heads reach a high enough temperature to properly print spot white.

The Edge is the best way to go but you also need software and a compatible plotter. Older systems in good working order typically go for a low of $7K with most up around $12K.

You really can't appreciate the benefits of having one until you actually do have one and any active shop will move several $K a month through one even with an inkjet sitting along side it.

Have you considered outsourcing?

A more limited, but larger, option is the Summa DC3. There's one advertised right now at 4EdgeTalk.com for $10K.

Fred, Im currently outsourcing all of my printing for Clear materials (Vinyl & Static Cling) to someone with an edge. Only problem is I can't deliver the product to my customers right away. I have to wait for them to do the job and ship it to me. It would just be nice to have a machine here to do it myself.

I do not actually have a really large demand for this type of printing so spending 10K is probably more than I want to do.

haha... Like I said just something to print white on clear. I cant see spending more than 5K for that when I have a Printer already.
