Just an FYI for all the Roland Eco-Sol users out there..
I highly suspect once you guys start changing your machines over to the new Eco-Sol MAX inks that it is going to become increasingly more important to clean your machines on a regular basis. The boasted quicker drying ink times are going to mean more nozzles clogged in your heads, ink drying up in your pumps etc. I have noticed these same types of issues with the Trangle inks, but that is to be expected with the quicker drying inks. If you follow the Cleaning How-To article you should have less issues.. If you leave your machine off for a few days and you have some nozzles clogged you can fill your capping station with cleaning fluid, once the head parks on the capping station it will loosen up the dried ink faster. This will save you from having to do a heavy cleaning cycle in most cases.

Barry,
You were right, I went away on the weekend for four days and when I got home I tried to print, well the Cyan and Black worked fine, but the Magenta and Yellow were dried up. I did the deal with sticking fluid in the capping stations and did a thorough cleaning. It works great now. Thanks! -Seann |

Thanks for the heads up Barry. Should I go ahead and fill the capping station as a precaution?
Here's what I am noticing today and wanted to run it by you. I have been printing regularly this morning and I will print a little, go on to something else and then print a little more. I am noticing the machine making a lot more "popping" sounds than I have ever noticed. It is not staying off long enough between printing to shut down completely. I guess it could be the heater or something, but it has never been this loud and frequent (popping sound) so I feel it must have something to do with the new inks. Any idea about this? |

Paula,
That popping sound is your pump. The machine is more than likely doing a cleaning when you hear the popping sounds. I have heard the new firmware causes the machine to clean more often. Just fill your capping station when you clean your machine.. As said in the cleaning article it will help clean the bottom of your heads and also help keep the pump from clogging.

Is that still just a suspection or you have some issues that confirms this suspissions? I have two machines with MAX inks packed together now for two days and will open them tomorow and the ink pump out was not performed. I hope, there won't be some mayor problems in that mannor.
Oh ... just now I saw you already posted some issues, I apologize. I guess I'll see what issues there will be with my macihens tomorow. ------------------------ What you guys mean with "sticking fluid in the capping stations" if I may ask? tnx OrlyTM |

Just in case you missed it, here is the link to Barry's tutorial on cleaning a versacamm - much better than the manual that came with my machine

well ... here's the issue ... one machine (sc-545ex) is fine and uprunning allready. But the second (sp-540) gave us some headache. An hour ago I put it toghether, out of the box and noticed, that there's a lot ink spilled in the box. After investigation of the problem, I found out that all the ink from 4 half full cartridges leaked through the drain hole (the drain plug was in place!). Totaly every ml of ink. All four cartridges are completely empty. So there's been around half a litre of ink leaking out.
Why is this so ... well ... my service guy tells me, that this is because we didn't perform the ink pump out and left the cartridges in during transport (it was direct request from our boss) ... I guess I belive him. Now we have issues with heads, which do not print good. I hope they are not all wasted. The service guy will check that tomorow. Anyone else had that problem? lp OrlyTM |

Yes you are definitely supposed to drain the machine for transport. It is very likely if you don’t the machine will leak ink just as yours did. The machines are gravity fed and if you have it leaning the ink can drain out through the heads.
Its not likely your machine is perminatly damaged, it probably just needs a head wash and to be refilled with ink and cleaned.
