Default WinXP Home or Pro?

I see that VersaWorks supposedly "requires" Pro, but is this true or not? I ask because I have Home Ed. and wasn't planning on upgrading unless there is some compelling reason to do so. Do you know the req's for SoftRIP? I looked at their site and could find no mention of system req's.

I dont believe Versaworks requires XP Pro, I know SoftRip does not.

AFTER I upgraded to XP Pro, I still could not install versaworks. I had to use Roland tech support to FINALLY get it installed. He told me I didn't need to upgrade to Pro, it would have worked with Home. If you get versaworks and it won't install, I have my notes about what to do. I was not too happy about spending $200 for the upgrade unnecessarily!

Chris,
Sounds like you plan to get a Roland?
Is that correct?

Yup, just working out the final details on it all. I'll be getting the 540v with external drier, bulk-ink system and Roland Edition SoftRip.

Will the bulk ink system void your Roland warranty? Just curious...

The most noticible difference between XP Home and XP Pro is the Pro has additional and improved network administration and security features.
If you are only using a stand-alone machine Home should serve your purpose.

Chris,
What was the final thing that persuaded you to choose the Roland? I think you made the best choice but I just wondered what the major thing was that influenced your decision to get the Roland over the Mutoh and others.
Ken

BTW
I like your sign calculator. I am in the process of modifying it to fit my needs better. There are things in it like MDO that I have never used and today I just realized that I can delete the items that I will not be selling to make it easier for people in my shop to calculate prices. I am glad that you are getting the Roland, do you plan to add a digital print section to the calculator?

Thanks,
Ken
