Question Flexi Rip & Print vs Prod Mgr

Can anyone offer a cogent explanation of why, if I output a file, a JPG in ths case, by importing it into Flexi (Pro 7.6v2 with the latest update) sending it to the Rip and Print and then on to the Production Manager the output is perfect. But if I bring exactly that same JPG file directly into the Production Manager and output it the print is literally drenched with ink. Ink running everywhere. In order to print it in anything resembling a satisfactory manner I have to drop the 'all' selection on the color tab to 60%. That would be the rightmost point that usually sits at 100%.

Same printer, Mutoh Falcon Outdoor 48, same media, Oracal 3651, same profile, Oracal 3651 straight from the folks that created it, not Oracal, a 3rd party, same everything. Ink limits are just fine. They weren't which prompted my contacting Oracal and thence the actual profile guys who sent me a copy that functions properly. While I know it is happening and I guess I can deal with it, I'd really like to know just WHAT is going on here.

Anyone? Anyone? Bueller? Anyone?

If you look into the Default Job Properties in the PM and select the "right" media, are the Ouput profile and the Linearization all in aggreement? If so, click on the Ink Limits button, are they all at 100? If so, there's your problem.

Check the properties for the output profile; what screening is it built for; FMXpress, LX something or other? Make sure the setting matches out in the color tab of PM.

Could also be that the media model was made for a different version of Flexi (i'm reaching here).

None of the above. The ink limits are exactly what they're supposed to be, ditto the dither method and all else. This profile is selected as a preset and everything, all of it, is correct when it is loaded.

The preset was exported by this exact same version of Flexi. Today. By the organzation that creates Oracal's profiles. Not just profiles for Oracal, but Oracal's profiles. The ones that you can download form their web site. It is correct and it is applied correctly.

So what does the RIp and Print do that's different from what the Product Mananger does? Same file, same profile correctly loaded, same everything. Different output.

ah, maybe i've got something....

go back to the color tab in PM and go to the ADVANCED button. Compare that to flexi's similar config.

These are input profiles and need to agree not only between flexi and PM, but to any other apps you use.

I'll be posting a multi page article here explaining this in excruciating detail.

Hope this solves it. Don't ya hate it when it seems like it's gotta be something simple.

Nope. Everything, input profiles, rendering intent, dither flavor, everything, every single thing is in concert Flexi to PM as well as most everything else.

What next?
