Default Using Excel Files

My customer has sent me a design that he has laid out in Excel, but I am unable to open the file in any of my programs other than Excel. What is the best way to get this file into my sign making program? I have opened it in Excel and tried to save as a different file but with no luck. Thanks..

My version of Flexi can open them but sometimes the information and layout can change once they are linked to native. Might be best to just redo the artwork and charge them for it as normally excel is not a graphic program nor should it be used as one

You have several options with this. One, if you have Adobe Acrobat (full version, not just the Acrobat Reader), you can print the file to an Acrobat PDF. If needed, you can then edit, scale, or modify the PDF in Illustrator or Corel.

Another option would be to link the Excel data directly into Corel via Object Linking and Embedding (OLE). You would then be able to save the file to some format that your RIP can process out of Corel. You might be able to do this from FlexiSIGN-Pro as well - I've not tried in Flexi since version 6.x.

I have just copied and pasted out of Excel and into Illustrator successfully.
I may have had to format things a bit but at least all of the information transfered without having to type it in.

Try this free online converter - Excel to PDF.
I used it once for a MS doc I couldn't open once, seemed ok.

I do this quite a bit. Open the file in Excel and either:

1) Copy and paste into your app
2) Export as a pdf using a free pdf tool such as PrimoPDF and then import into your software.

Whichever option you use, make sure to charge the customer for your time and file conversion.
