We almost never open things directly in Preflight and almost always go through a designated quickset for the material/settings we want to use. So we've not seen differences between the two. I have had numerous students tell me they've seen such differences though.

I am pretty good with software, and learning in general. Profiling is hard. Part of the problem I have also had with Onyx is inconsistancy with profiling technique. You can see an example of it in the DVDs when Johanna is interviewing their color scientist. She mentions achieving a neutral grey in the first limitations swatch, where the scientist said not to worry about neutrality...it would be taken care of in the ICC, but keep the two color combinations from bleeding.
Frustrating, but I am slowly getting the hang of it. I use two parts fudge factor ; ) Its magic! |

eye,
We have started printing most of our jobs through the Layout Tool, which uses XRip. Its great for nesting, and thats out greatest time monster. Having a nesting tool greatly increased productivity, but I wasnt expecting color inconsistency using the same profiles. |

Eye-
Wasatch has support for the HP 45500. And from your profile, it looks like we support all the printers you have listed. For your reference here is a link to our support printer list http://www.wasatch.com/largeformatlist.html Bryan |

I'm leaning toward Caldera.
Thanks though.

Eye-
I would be interested to hear a first hand account of Caldera. So far I only know of one shop running it in the US (i would assume there are more). I will admit bias, my profit sharing check gets fatter with each Softrip sold. When/If you make the move let us know what you think. thanks, Bryan |
