Default Wasatch tech support

When I bought my Seiko, I also bought the Wasatch rip. It comes with a 90 day tech support and upgrade service. After the 90 days you cant call them for any help, unless you buy another 90 days for $299. I dont know about you guys but that seems pretty excessive to me. $100 a month to talk to someone when you have a problem with their software! I can certainly understand buying the upgrades, but to pay for tech support is kind of rediculous. I for one have had to use tech support twice, each problem only took a few minutes to correct. Maybe there are some people who abuse the support, but I am not overly impressed with a company that has to charge you that amount for tech support. If it was for a year I would be ok with it and wouldnt feel overcharged, although I still dont like it.

That does sound like a lot for support. Im using ColorRip (Roland old version of Wasatch Rip). I do have to say I love the Rip though.

The big advantage about having a forum such as this is when you have a problem its very likely that one of us have had it as well and can answer your question at no charge.

Oh its a good rip alright, Ive got no complaints as far as that goes. I just think for $3,000 dollars they could at least give tech support for at least a year.

Default realtive comparisons

Onyx doesn't charge for support. If you keep up with the upgrades, you're in. I currently do high end training on a number of RIPs and find Onyx to consistantly provide the best support when i have to call on an onsite training and need immediate responses.

The big thing is are there a large number of profiles availble for the Rip for your machine, or atleast for the materials you use. For the Roland printers it seems that Wasatch has the most profiles avaible. This is probably more due to every Roland Printer came with a copy for a few years.

It seems there are a lot more Mamiki and Seiko profiles for Onyx than a lot of the other Rips.

Know that making these "profiles" is not as hard or as expensive as you might think. Plus, the makers of these things you download to control color have a giant list of them to make. They take little to no time to craft the results. With a little training and $1500-5000 worth of software/hardware you can do a far better job. This allows you to use any media that can take your ink with better color, less waste, and a far greater understanding of the inner workings of how the color management works.

If anyone is interested in becoming self sufficient let me know, i can hook you up with several regional sources for training.

BTW, don't let consulatants just do the work for you. Get trained how to do it yourself. Being self sufficient pays off in many ways.
