Default flexi and onyx

I have been told that flexi uses the same rip engine as onyx. Anybody know anything about this? I appreciate your input.

Printer: JV3 - HP - Roland / Onyx - Wasatch - VersaWorks -
Default Not the case

Onyx uses the Jaws postscript interpreter, while Flexi uses Adobe's engine.
