Default Running Versaworks on 2 Printers

Hey all!

This might be a touchy subject for some of you so I apologize ahead of time.
I would like to get my copy of versaworks to run on 2 printers. Is that at all possible? I'm running an SC 540 with colorip and my 745 has versaworks. I would love it if the colors were somewhat the same on both printers.

Thanks!

I believe you can purchase a copy of versaworks (I think for $1500) that will run other Roland printers. I dont think you can actually get your copy of versaworks to run on the 540 unless you swap out the main board with a 545.

Personally I would go the other route and purchase Wasatch SoftRip and use it to run both printers.

You have to buy a dongle as Barry says to run the SC 540. I have done it.

One computer/ versaworks can only handle one printer, so in your case you have to have to two computers to operate your printers. It is a feature that is comming but not possible yet.

I personelly like VW but what to choose is a matter of taste.

Actually you have to do more than swap out the main board, as the printhead color sequence also differs from one to the next.

Thats good to know..

BTW, the nice thing about Wasatch is you can run multiple printers from the same computer/rip

Maybe it's only in Versaworks 2, but the copy that shipped with my XC-540 I have two printers on it, but you have to switch between the two, not run them side by side as far as I can tell.

Who knows though as I've only printed two jobs through it as a test, as Onyx is my main RIP for all my printers. I don't claim to know what I'm talking about with Versaworks.

Even if you change out parts and get a RIP (any RIP) that can drive all your many printers, getting the color to be at least similar across them is going to be a challenge.

It always depends on how good you need it to be. But, to really get them to be close, much less match, you'll need to make your own profiles and maintenance them with regular recalibration (relinearization as some folks call it).

I'd hate to see you throw lots of $$$$$ at it to find that they still won't match, or even be close.

Its true that you can switch between to machines, but only one can run at one time and its is not just to switch over. So you have to have to computers to run efficient.
