Can anyone tell me how to setup the ink usage feature in Onyx 6.5?
Any advice would be appreciated. |

a) first you need to just type in the cost/ml of your ink, this is the easy bit.
b) then you will also need to measure exactly how much ink your printer uses. this is pretty easy with some printers like the HP designjets, the onboard webpage gives you exact usage details. on with my soljet I went through the menu onboard the printer, it tells you the % left in each cart. god knows how precise this is but its the best you can go by if you want to do this. c) ok go to manage printers and dial in the ink prices per ink set, leave correction at 1. d) turn on measure ink cost in the quickset for the printer. e) print a fair sized plot with say 400% coverage. compare the amount of ink used as measured in the rip and measured by the printer. f) adjust the correction factor now in ripqueue it will give you a breakdown of ink use and total cost per job if you have it turned on in the quickset. bear in mind it takes time to measure this so will slow production, you can always turn it off if this becomes an issue. I'm not fully convinced its accurate but like to think it gives me some handle on how my print pricing is going especially if its a big job, you can tally up total costings instead of the vague $/sq ft otherwise. |

yeah seems painfully slow on vardot (Roland/Epsons) printers, not so bad on my HPs. oh well just use it on jobs where you really need to fine tune your profit margin I guess.
