Default What software to get??

I am just getting into cutting vinyl. I have a Roland PNC-1000 (given to me). What would be a good basic software to get to do basic cutting? Nothing fancy or expensive, but will get the job done. Any downloadable software? Don't want to spend a lot of $$$ to start out with.

I have never done it, but I here Corel and Illustrator can cut if you have that.

I believe you will need a plugin for each of those programs to actually cut...

Unlikely that you will able to cut directly from Corel. You will likely need to buy a really expensive program like Flexi... several thousand dollars. But it really gets the job done...!

There's really no need get a "really expensive program" as there are several plug-in programs from around $100 to $600. These include SignTools, SignGo, SignCut and CoCut.

I think that is what I am looking for. I am just getting started in cut vinyl and don't see the sanity in spending $4000 on software. Any suggestion where to get any of these less expensive options?

CoCut (I use Pro) is worth the money if you can swing it. To over simplify it.....you do your design, click the "Cut" icon, and CoCut lets you apply registration marks (for alignment), cycle thru the various colors, select # of copies (and distributes them across the "page"), apply weed lines, etc.

The version I have uses a hardware USB dongle. Not sure about new versions if they exist.

So simple even I could do it!

I have Flexi Letter (7.6) for Cutting. It does just about everything you need for vinyl work.

It imports most files fine as well.

I found it good value as a starting point.
