There is a Wasatch Roland Only small format RIP Upgrade available for first generation SP300's. I just set up a client just last week - it should be delivered today, and I will try to keep you updated on the performance.
I think the retail is around $600. It is not VersaWorks, but a more capable Rip than Colorchoice. I do not think you are able to update an SP300 to an SP300V.

Not sure why you would want to run versaworks, but I believe you can buy it for a non-v machine from Roland for around $1,500.

I can get the soft rip for about 1390$ and the VersaWorks driver/ upgrade i can get for about 850$ in Denmark without VAT.
I think the price for the VW driver is bit much when I have the program for my SP300V, so therefor I would check if it is cheaper "abroad". My reason for (probertly) choosing VW for my SC540ex insted of Softrip is: 1. The price dirrence 2. I´m not quite saticefied with the Colorrips output of greytones. All my profiles are more or less pinkish than pure grey. 3. Many of the features that have been missing on VW has been added or on the way - still I miss autonesting, but can work around it in VW. I dont have the knowledge to tinker with the colorcurves in colorrip so I find VW easier to alter a little with colors. So if you havent been using VW for a while it could be a good idea to try it again, because I REALLY hated VW when I got my SP300V but know I am actually pretty happy with it. |

Just know that it is not the fault of ColoRip or Wasatch that your grey tones have a color cast. It is the fault of the color profile used when printing. Even a great profile that is only slightly off, will show a cast on grey tones. Your upgrade to the latest Wasatch RIP will have the autonesting you want also.

Its just strange that all my profiles also the ones I got from rolanddg.com are more pink than real grey.
I know, Colorrip has autonesting too. But I can almost do it as easily in VW |
