I'm using Illustrator CS2 - and when I use multiple gradients and save as an eps (vector) colorip doesn't recogize them all. It doesn't preview them, nor will it print them. I've tried making compound paths... tried everything ::sigh::

90% of most current illustrator headaches = transparency features.
Try rasterizing the offending parts in Ill. If that fails, save as a PDF then rasterize the whole thing in Photoshop at 100-150ppi.

I do about 90-95% of my designs in Illustrator CS2, and don't really have any trouble with it.
Flattening the transparency works good on that - eye4clr is right, and it doesn't really deviate the quality much. |

definately flatten all transparencies in illustrator, especially when dealing with spot colors. not sure why they are having such difficulties in CS2.
anyhow, what options are you usig when you save the eps (gradeint mesh)??? |

I get the same thing from Corel X3 once in a while. To fix it I copy my gradient to a rectangle the exact same size as my object and fill my original object with nothing. I then place the rectangle as a powerclip inside my object that originally had the gradient, (clipping path for Illustrator users?). Then save my file as a pdf as I usually do and it works like a charm.

for whatever reason, saving to PDF in Illustrator seems to work better for gradients/operprints compared to EPS.

I use the same approach with Corel 10 and X3.....except when I have my vector set I draw a shape just larger than my vector. Put my gradiant in the box contvert to RGB 300dpi bitmap THEN powerclip into the vector. |

Do you have VersaWorks with your Roland? If you do, you can print directly from CS2. I have done that with gradients and had no problem.

And if you are using transparencies, make sure they involve CMYK objects, both the transparent object, and those underneath, and then ColoRip works just fine.
