Hello all, this is my 1st post
2 weeks ago, i bought a versacamm SP-540v. my tech said that i can't print 720x720dpi 4pass, and 360x360dpi using versaworks. my tech said that i have to buy a RIP software such as ONYX, etc.... if i want to print 720x720dpi 4pass. is this true? if this is true,... i have to spend about U$3000 for 720x720dpi 4pass and 360x360dpi? if this is true,... i should buy mimaki. because i get Wasatch SoftRIP my versaworks ver 1.7.1 sorry if my english is not so good. thx. |

Im not a Versaworks user so I cant answer the questions about versaworks.
I can tell you that you will never get good prints out of your versacamm in 720x720 4 pass mode or 360x360 no matter which RIP you use. In 4 pass mode you will get heavy banding and ink density issues. The Mimaki printers do not come with Wasatch RIP, they come with RasterLink II which uses the Wasatch RIP engine. From what I understand the RIP is way different.

I am getting perfectly acceptable prints running at 360x720 4-pass mode. Could be that I have more print heads on my SC-540 than the SP-540V. Can't answer the VW part.

Just a quick note, auto upgrade your Versaworks to version 2.0.4 which is the latest version. ( Start / Programs / Roland Versaworks / Online Update)
If you select a print job, then click Job / Settings this will open up the settings section for that job. Click on the Quality button. For the media type selected you can select the print options, High Quality / Standard / High Speed. If you click on the radio buttons you will see the resolution change. Now as far as I am aware, the number of passes cannot be changed by the use as it is part of the profile, however I believe that the 720 x 720 in many cases is set to 4 or 8 passes. I have downloaded the profiles for the materials I use. JAC 7110 EMS (Cheap calendared vinyl) Orajet 3651 (Inexpensive Calendared Vinyl) Orajet 3691 (Cast Material) I use exclusively those materials so I have then loaded into Versaworks and Signlab which are the 2 RIPs I use. I tend to use Versaworks when I do anything in Photoshop or Illustrator CS as I can print via Versaworks from Illustrator. Never had any problem with results. Anyway, going back to what I said at the beginning, always keep the software up to date. |
