Default Help for a total Noob

I'm trying to assist my computer impaired brother with his new setup. Flexidesign 8.5, VersaWorks, and a VersaCamm VP-300. The only thing I'm trying to do at this time is cut vinyl, no printing. I create some text in Flexi, export it as .eps and open it with Versa. In Versa settings I select cut only, and get a big nothing for my effort. Not feeling too smart at the moment, is there something simple that I'm missing? Thanks!

In Flexi, you have to convert the text into 'Cut Paths', and then save the EPS file.

Default possible solution

I don't use Flexi, I export an eps from Corel, but with Corel you must pick the vectors you intend to cut & give then a special color, & call them a hairline, the cutter knows to cut only that color traces. I 'll bet that the reason your machine isn't cutting is that it doesn't know that's what you want it to do. Check your literature, you need to give the cutter a specific command about the vector you want to cut, if that wasn't the case, it would cut every trace in your art work.

Hmmm, I'll have to check on that. On the old software we had all I had to do was create the text or logo or whatever and select cut and off to the production manager it went and got cut.

Thanks for the help.

Musictoo, In Flexi simply select desired text, go to Arrange menu > Contour cut > make contour cut (this applies the contour cut command to the selected path that Versaworks will recognize). Now save as .EPS and send file through Versaworks and you should be cutting.

By the way, don't forget to set a margin setting in Versaworks for EPS file format or your cuts may be incomplete.

If you're going through versaworks you need to make a custom color named "CutContour" (without the apostrophe's). Apply that color to the stroke of the cutting object, not the fill, leave the fill with "none". Then export as an eps.

If you are trying to cut vinyl letters, use Flexi to do that direct to the Roland Printer / Cutter. Go into production manager and add a cutter, from the list, select the Versacamm SP 300.

I have a similar setup with Flexi 8, Versaworks and an SP 540V. I cut vinyl on the 540 happily from within Flexi.

By the way, please put on some location details etc on your profile so we can see if anyone is near to you that can then talk you through something on the phone. I am in Ireland and would happily talk you through it if needed.

If I click on the cut icon, it starts up production manager. No job appears in the production manager, nor does there appear to be any obvious way to add a plotter. The majority of the menu setting are greyed out. At the top of the production manager screen that are 3 icons: Job, Delete, and Help.
