I ham having so much trouble with my Signlab, I feel that I wasted €1500 ($1800) and now they want me to upgrade to version 7.1 so that I can now use the profiles for the Max Inks. This will be another €400 ($500).
I currently use flexi Letter for my cutting work and have been a happy user of Flexi for a number of years. My thinking on the matter is to cut my losses with Signlab and either go for Flexi Pro or Photo Print DX. Flexi Pro is about $5800, and I can cut quite happily, the Photo Print DX is about $1800. Therefore as I can continue to cut with Flexi Letter, i was thinking of going down the Phot Print DX route. Can anyone tell me if they are using Photo Print and if so, what they think about it. Is it a good RIP? Does it have a good range of Profiles for the likes of Oracal, Avery and the likes? Please let me have your thoughts. Neil |

Personally I would take a look at Wasatch SoftRip. You can pickup the Roland only version for about $1,500. Personally I feel this is a superior RIP to Flexi.

Can you do any design work in SoftRip or is simply a RIP for completed designs? With Photo Print DX you ave the added function of being able to design images and then RIP them.
I have been happy with Flexi for cutting and part of me says to standardise on the user interface. I find Flexi easy to navigate and operate. Maybe it just me getting a little long in the tooth!! LOL Thanks any Barry for the comments, I will have a look at the Wasatch site. Neil |

Wasatch SoftRip is only a RIP application so you cannot design in it.

I think you would be best served with a sample file of your most produced work (photographic, spot color, print & cut, etc.) sample printed on your printer model, with your ink set, on your material choice. Document your color workflow and communicate it to the salesman & operator of the rip to isolate any problems before they become bigger after the sale.
A bit of work for both you and the sales folks but nailed as to real world expectations when it arrives. Flexi, easy print/cut workflow, Onyx, more efficient production workflow. But in all reality you can probaby make any rip do what you want within reason and with enough time. IMHO ![]() |

Thanks for all the comments guys. At present, I have a 30 day version of Photo Print DX on its way from the UK.
I will give that a go and check out the results. I will let you know how things go. Neil |
