Default Pricing Suggestions Please

Hello all! I am fairly new to the digital sign industry and had a few questions regarding prices. I was wondering how people quote installation. Do people have a sq ft price for installation, or does everyone just look at a job and decide that it is gonna take x amount of hours and multiply that by their shop rate. I realize that applying over rivets takes more time than a flat surface so do you guys have different per sq ft prices depending on the surface. Or do you have a time estimate for installation on flat, simple curves, and rivets and corrugations?

Also, when doing larger jobs, do you give a price break above certain sq ft. If so what are the sq ft breaks and what percentage discount do you give?

One last thing. We have been asked to quote a couple of car wraps and was also needing to know how car wraps are estimated. Is that strictly a sq ft price as well? I know that certain vehicles are much more difficult(i.e. VW Beetle, PT Cruiser) Any other info that can be provided on this subject would be appreciated!

Thanks in advance for your help!

Jason

Jason, If you give a customer a price quote vs. a price estimate you are potentially setting your self up for a problem. My feeling on this aspect of the job is that the customer is pretty much sold at this point. Hes gone thru the design/ price stage with you and presumeably now is comfortable with you & trusts that you will do a good job. I always tell my customer that application of his graphics will take a range of time. Let's face it, the most important part of the installation is that its done right, & if that means an additional hour or so, in the grand scheme of things who cares as long as that hr. isn't coming out of your pocket. Your customer hasen't a clue what is involved in applying his graphics. Take your best guess at how long it will take, add an hr. or two...(I'm part Polish, & refer to this as the Polish factor, PF on my work sheet) Then I tell my customer I won't charge him more than X hrs, but it may take a bit less. They feel assured & you have a BS cushion.
