Default Retail price for a BIG banner

My wife just started going out and trying to solicit some business locally. She went to one place that said they had a 9' x 60' banner done, not all printed but with a print on part of it. They already ordered it, but wanted to get a price for future reference. So I called them back to get the specifics and said that I couldn't personally print one that big, but that it would go for approx. $4000 (540 sq. ft. at $7.50 psf). So of course I asked what they paid and he says they paid $2300! That works out to just $4.26 psf. This was done, as far as I know, by a local sign shop that seems to be kindof a dive (IMO). That is a wholesale price in my book...or is that what something of that size would go for?

Chris,

Alight my price would be higher than the $2,300 I probably would not charge my full rate at that size. Id would more than likely drop the price a buck or 2 a sq foot since that is a really big job. There is plenty of room to play in that price as you only have a few hundred dollars in material cost in a banner that size. Im thinking $5-$6 a sq foot is reasonable for that size banner.

One place that we have gotten prices from before would run us $1215 wholesale. $2300 doesn't seem that totally unreasonable.

I'm like ya'll and wouldn't make a banner for that price, however, there are a couple shops close by here that have grand format printers that I get to print some of my billboards or 50' and 60' banners. They only charge $1.00/sf.
