Hi Everette, how are things?

It depends alot on your market, but we're around $6.50-8 p.s.f. with tape hems and grommets at the retail level, depending on the amount of ink coverage (it it's 100% coverage we go up towards the 8 mark, if it's 100% black, I'll go higher than that). If you're having the hems sewn by someone like Fellers, be sure to compensate for the additional expense and time getting the banner to and from them, and their charge for the hemming.

Lots of factors in that, but I know for us for 100% coverage and with hemming/grommets it comes to about $6.50/sf whereas if they're ordering a 1 color "FOR SALE" banner, or something with simple text like that it only comes to around $4.25. This price on all banners includes 30 minutes of design time, anything beyond that (designers discretion) they are charged and addition design fee.

Wow....
I think you guys are awful cheap at 4.25 sf...I'm charging and getting a minimum of $9 per sf. For full coverage a little more. That tape hemmed and grommeted. I haven't charge for design on any of these so far. Only had the Roland for about three months, but I was getting the same price using my Encad 880 with GO inks.

We're also the highest priced shop in town...no one would pay $9/sf here.

I don't know how in Gods name any of us can make money doing banners so cheap. I can understand $5 or $6 a sq. ft. if there are 10 or 20 banners all the same, but to run 1 -3' x 8' banner for $144.00 with hemming and grommets just seems crazy, and I know there are shops out there doing it for less.

Huh....lol Not me I'd rather sit home on the couch than lose money everyday...

I wish we could start some sort of digital printing association where we could bring people together to stop all of this undercutting. It would certainly solve a lot of problems and help people to make a buck. I didn't invest all of this money on digital equipment to not make more money, it is just obscene.

Thanks,
Kurt

This is what I don't get...we're on the low end for all you guys on here, but we're making loads of profit. We're not losing any money, banners are the most profitable part of our business, and this is at our current pricing. Maybe it just comes down to the how many we are producing, I don't know. We're a big shop, and do a million banners a year (not literally).

Agreed! If you're loosing money at $3-4/sf for banner, there is something seriously wrong.
