Default Easy Money...

Nothing fancy, just one color on colorplast. I printed this just because its easier and faster than cut vinyl. There are 4 of these at 36x24 and tool less than an hour to print and apply while taking my time.

Nice job, but...looks to me like the last line should have ended with an exclamation mark or period.

Artwork was provided by the customer and I asked them about that and they wanted it that way for some strange reason.

Nice Barry,
Do you find yourself pricing a job like this(meaning the equivelent of a 1 color cut vinyl job) lower than if your customer would have taken advantage of the full color process that you used.

Jobs like this I will price at Cut vinyl prices since the job could have been done with cut vinyl. The only reason I printed this job is because it was quicker and easier. Ink and vinyl for this job was probably only about $0.25 a sq foot or $1.50 per sign.

Default More easy money

Here's something I kinda fell into. A local computer store called me to make two 36"x48" signs for his A-frame sign. He had gotten in a bunch of I-Pods for Christmas & wanted to advertise them. He was expecting vinyl letters. I asked him to bring down a couple of the I-Pods & I'd make him signs. I took a pic of two of them, put a corel draw texture behind them & lettering on the screens, with IN STOCK at the top. Not really a portfoilo piece, but he needed it that day. We mounted the prints on panels & put them in his A-frame about 3 hrs later. His cost, $450.00. He was syked when he saw them.
He called me the next morning and told me he was thinking of doing two panels/different products each month. He had sold six I-Pods in 2.5 hrs & was looking to keep the sales happening. I told him we had a 6 month & a 12 month package ( I hope Santa wasn't listening, because I was making it up as I was I was going along) but he signed up for the 12 month package. Thats $375 per month I told him. I put together a "digital marketing program" proposal form on my computer, printed it out, we both signed it & he gave me a deposit of $1050. That's 1/3 of the yearly total less his first pair of signs.
A health spa called about an A-frame & I told them about the success of the computer guy. They bought a sign, I'm working on them for a contract also, they've only had the sign for two days & as yet haven't signed up. I charged them $520. for the total A-frame including photo, production, etc. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. The point is if we can place signs with business people & sell them panels to slide in, we build continued business.
The trick would be to keep production costs low. I can see spending several hours getting just the right shot, but if the client isn't willing to pay, then keep it a simple pic, & drop in some copy.

Very clever John!
Classic case of striking while the iron's hot.
The customer thinks he'll change it every month, but in reality these things usually drag out for 6-12 months.
By pre-selling you get him to commit now to monthly changes that would probably not have happened.
You can give yourself a pat on the back for that one!
