Default A nice big one

Here's a job we finished last week.
The lower sign (with me standing next to) is 6m x 1800 (20' x 6')
All digital print onto Oracal 3551 with Tedlar used for laminate.
The prints were done in vertical panels slightly wider than 4', then mounted to 4' x 6' colorbond (coated steel) sheets.

I was worried about shrinkage from the edges of the sheets. The Oracal stuff definately shrinks and I imagine after a while there'd be a 1/4" gap between each panel, and also in from top & bottom.
To alleviate this I printed the panels allowing for 1/2" extra print top, bottom, and right edge. I then wrapped this extra vinyl and laminate around the back of the sheets so hopefully it will prevent it from pulling back from those edges.
I didn't do the left edges because these were overlapped by the previous sheet.

The top sign was cut & rolled (with enamel paint), and then I added an airbrushed blend along the top of the lettering.

I thought you'd have Tedlar over there?
It's an anti-graffiti film - completely impervious to all solvents.
It's a pressure sensitive clear, really thin and sticky, but once it's on its there forever!
I think 3m make the original Tedlar, but the one I used is from Oracal - series 240? It also offers 800% UV prolongation!

I applied it wet with a rubber squeegee and soapy water to the prints before they were mounted (also wet)

This is the rest of it.
Shows Stuart, my helper touching up the screws.
He dragged the panels for that sign up by ropes, and I came up the extension ladder to fix them.
The rest was installed off my trestles & plank. Took us just over a day & a half to put up the lot.

"Tyres" is the way the rest of the world spells "Tires".
I agree it must look strange if you're not used to seeing it written like that.
It's like color and colour - I'm so used to writing "color" now on American sign forums that "Colour" looks kinda French to me now!

One of my old roomates was from Manchester England. He lived with me for a year and half the time I could not understand what he was saying... I was constantly corrected for spelling Colour as Color and Tyre as Tire...

Teldar is it the same as Mylar? im assuming we use a mylar film for laminating of door seals it is impervious and quite strong the only problem with it is its dimentionally stable so it wont stretch around complex curves just like standard mirror chrome vinyl.

im not sure who the manufacture of our mylar is id have to look it up.
