Default color match (2 printers)

hi!

is there a way to match the color output of two printer?

we have a cj-500 and fj-52 both running RCC4.

tips needed.

Yeah, but you will need to invest into a spectrophotometer such as the one from Gretag Macbeth. With this you will be able to profile each of your printers and get them as close as you can possibly get them to matching.

is there a cheaper way? i just noticed that our CJ500 prints redder reds than than the FJ52. btw, we are also using PhotoPrint rip.

Cheap - Easy - Quality

You can choose any 2, but you cannot have all three.

Everyone who answered so far is right. The preferred method is making your own custom profile with a spectrophotometer. If you don't want to lay out the cash, time, and sweat, then there are still options (albeit 2nd class):

1. try dowloading profiles from the media, printer, and/or ink manufacturers you're using.
2. locate a service bureau that will make a profile for you. They email you a file, you print it, send it to them, and they email you back a profile.

Whichever route you choose, you have to specify the ink, media, print resolution, and dot pattern and stick with it. Changing any of those and all bets are off.

thank you for the response!

i'm using the same settings on both printers: RIP settings, inks, media.

the prints are ok, just that our FJ-52 prints a bit dull compared to the CJ-500 print.
