Default Problem with Encad 600e

I tried to print something with my old Encad Novajet pro600e and found out that I have a problem...when I do a test prime, after completing the four colors it starts to beep three times and doesnt complete the prime. If I try to print it starts but stops after 15 seconds and starts to beep...It's an oldie (about 8 yrs old) so I'm not suprised...any1 have a clue whats wrong?

It could be the chrome bar that the carriage runs on needs cleaning.
I used to clean mine with solvent, then spray some silicone spray onto a paper towel and wipe the bar to keep it slippery.

You may also need to clean the encoder strip gently with a moistened tissue.

When my NJ750 does this it is because the paper isn't feeding properly. The 3 beeps is the out of paper sensor. After I feed new stock in I always unroll the feed roll by hand a bit so that there is slack in the roll and it properly trips the paper sensor.

I always do the required maintance with damp paper towel with water ....the supply roll needs to be manualy advanced (spin it out a foot or so ) that will trip the sensor. It thinks it sheet feeding.. good luck

New bushings and trailing cable, wipe down the bar WITHOUT lube.

Basic preventative maintenace. The real fix would be to replace it. You'll be much happier.

I second everybody, we had a 600e, had the same problem on a daily basis, we ended up having to change our bushings about every other month, and had to clean the bar before each use. Also sounds like it could be a media feed issue, but mroe than likely the bushings are shot and the bar needs cleaning. Eye4clr is right, the 600e was a good printer in it's day but any more they're just a money pit and not worth keeping. The best thing I ever did with mine was throw it away (literally).

Speaking of old technology, my first large format device was meant to be a leap forward from the Novajets when it was launched with much HP hype.. .the HP3000CP designjet.

In many ways I suppose it was, with easily replaceable heads and ink systems..

But try and print anything longer than about 1 metre and you were introduced to those things' most obvious "feature" euphemistically known as the "dry line" where the printer stopped for a minute or so to refill the freakin heads!

Took some explaining to get away with the nasty lines through a banner.. I suppose it showed HP's background in plan printers where a plotter never needed to plot anything over A0 and didn't use much ink when it did.

It was a fine day showing that beast the door and wheeling in the 5000..

Yes you must do the daily maintance cleaning the cable, shaft, encoder strip, and wipe/ prime the heads !! i use water on a shop towel.(no solvents will dry up the copper bushing faster ) you can milk the heck out of the encad if you keep the DAILY wiping.. it you need a bushing /cable kit , you will have a carrage access failure, carrage will stop in the same spot.. Its a old dog but if you pet him he will still play !!! Good luck..
