Hi.
I just got my Colorspan 5465 up and running. I am having some problems with the ink adheriing to 10 mil coroplast. I am using the Inteplast brand of coroplast. What can I do to get the ink to stick better? Thanks for any help I can get! |

1) Clean Coroplast
2) Re-Profile. Sorry...I know it's a crappy answer but it's all I've got. We had similar issues with adhesion on 10mil Coro, which I found odd because we were printing on 4mm just fine. What I learned is that there is something called a Dyne Level that effects how well UV inks stick to it. Screen printers have been dealing with this for a long time. http://www.accudynetest.com/surface_tension_test.html --- My thought is that you're putting too much ink down for the the dyne level of 10 mil coroplast, which from my suppliers at least is different than the dyne level of 4mm coro. I'm no molecular chemist.......but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night. ![]() |

The ink levels definitely. To me on my end it seems at times that there's ink down to the point that the lamps cure the ink on the top, but it's on there thick enough that it make not totally cure the ink that's touching the substrate itself, so it lifts easier. We re-profiled and have not been having issues with that anymore.
You can bump the lamps up to high as well to help compensate, but be careful with warping on the coroplast. Not as big of deal on the 10mil though. The 4mil will curl with lamps on high, at least it has for us.

I found that lowering the UV lamps on my Arizona GT250 helped. Otherwise the inks became too brittle and flaked off when trimming down full bleed images.

I have heard that the Inteplast brand tends to have greater levels of oil leaching out of its surface - this would have a direct impact on the ink adhesion. We print coro all day long on our 5465...I'll find out what brand of coro we use and will get back to you.
