I'm adding a refurbished HP 5500 60" to my shop. I currently print everything on a Mimaki JV3 130SP. A great machine but like everything else has it's limitations. I plan to use the HP mainly for interior Backlits, interior POP signage and Trade Show Graphics. I laminate all the mentioned graphics with low-melt thermal of varied texture, thickness or gloss levels. Should I go with Dye or UV on the HP. Opinions please, Thanks JC.

I have a 5500 and I'm running Dye inks.. you'll get better quality if your main purpose is good quality indoor prints.

No I got it from Cad Engineering on Ebay. This one is also a refurbished 5500 but not the PS model. I'm running Onyx Production House so the non-Postscript is a better buy for me. I did talked to Josh, he was very helpful and offers very good pricing for consumables.

I have a 5000 with the conversion for dye or UV figuring I'd save money using the dye inks on short term interior signage and the UV for artwork and photo reproduction.
The color gamut is so close that I haven't had the dye inkset in in two years although there are certain stocks that are dye only that I do miss being able to use. |

I've got a UV conversion kit for sale if you're interested. It's the 42" version.

The Dye Inks fade within months. The UV Inks just keep going & going & going....

Will they fade in months as you say if the prints are laminated and used indoors? |

Yes, fits 5000 or 5500 equally.
