Printer: Uniform Grenadier soon to be converted back to a R
Default Advice please

HI
I currently run a Uniform grenadier SP 1400C print and cut which apart from gray and sometimes banding is ok. I have recently been contacted by Roland and offered the following. A Roland engineer will visit my shop and replace all heads (£700each) clean and replace all piping and install versaworks 2.2 apparently returning it back to its unbastardised state as a soljet pro 11 545ex (I think that was what it originally was) all this for a shade under £2500. all I have to do is use Avery only Media.

Do you think this is worthwhile or am I falling for the sales pitch

Cheers

There's no need to replace the heads unless they're all cactus.
Changing the tubing is a waste of time also as it's no different.
You can drain, flush and then fill with whatever eco sol/mild solvent ink you want - and do it yourself piece of cake.

But then you will need a rip that has profiles for the new ink/media combo.

Why would you do that? of course Roland want you to use their inks again but what's in it for you? and why use Avery media only.
Now if they were going to do all that for nothing you might consider it..

I have the VersaCamm SP540 V with Versaworks. Roland MAX inks are fine, nothing special. I use VersaWorks a lot in conjunction with Illustrator CS 2, again it's fine but nothing special.

Are you using the CitroSol inks with your machine? What rip are you using? Are they going to change the Firmware of the machine?

I don't see the need to change the heads unless they are causing problems. I would have expected that the system needs to be flushed with the solvent / semi solvent used with your ink type and then recharging the system with a new ink if thats what you choose.

I think that the price seems a little steep for what is needed.

Push the sales guy as to why the heads etc need to be changed, get a such info as you can get and let us know.
