Default New UV Printer

Has anyone else seen the press release today on www.colorspan.com?
They came out with a new UV printer that really seams to be bridging the gap between solvent and UV. Looks like a good lineup of machines for us smaller shops.

Are you talking about the 5400uv?

It's kinda cute, heh. We're still trying to get them to get our 9840 running perfectly. Have yet to see that.

Default ColorSpan 5400uv

Ya, I think ColorSpan's got it goin' on!
The 9840 is a phenomenal machine. A customer of mine locally has one, and it's quite a piece of work. This 5400 looks like something I can really get behind. Great quality, media flexibility, at a price that's reasonable for lots of shops. Well done MacDermid, well done!

It's a phenomenal machine when it runs like it should, but for us that's only about 75% of the time. Their RIP is the biggest load of crap I've ever used and we still continue to have hardware problems. We've had numerous UV lamp issues and had to have multiple parts replaced already and it just hasn't stopped yet. Over the phone they make it sound like we're the only ones having issues, but their field tech said that it's pretty much across the board. Who knows. Hopefully they get it all solved right away if they care to get any money. We haven't paid them a dime yet.

Off the colorspan website.
Cost:
4 Color / 4 heads = $54,995
6 Color / 6 heads = $61,995
4 Color / 8 heads = $68,995
6 Color / 12heads = $79,995

I just got the 5440, runs good quality prints on paper. But media need to be white and I got it to print on metallic surface. Anyone here with tips on how to fool the onboard camera to recognize the media? Already tried taping 8 inches of white paper on leading edge with mixed results.

thanks, Arjen
