Hello. Our shop, which up untill now subbed out printing, recently acquired a used Mutoh package.

We have a Valuejet 1204 running Flexi DX. I design everything in Corel 13 and then export to flexi to print. But we have had a big problem getting colors to match. So far we have only used medias that have profiles built in to flexi, so I am sure those are correct. But I think the problem is starting from Corel. I am unsure how to set everything up. We own a copy of Monaco easy color which has helped a little, but at the same time made everything a little more confusing. While I think it has improved the environment I design in for Corel, It's made things further from the correct color on the printer end. We have been blowing through media trying to get this right. Is there a color management section in Flexi as well that I'm missing?

Is there some other management software we should own? For example if we set up corel and flexi correctly, what happens to things in photoshop?

Sorry for all the questions right off the bat, we are just very lost. Seems like the days where we subbed out were easier!!

Sorry to rain on the parade, but i think the DX version doesn't allow you to make your own profiles.

Somebody please correct me if i'm wrong.

Profiles for media? If so, that's fine for now, since we only have medias that have a profile already pre loaded. We're looking to streamline what comes out of corel, into flexi, then out of the printer using a preloaded profile for the appropriate media.

Hi Joe,
I too have a Mutoh 1204 printer. I printed out the CMYK color chart that is available for download in this site. I then match all of my colors via that chart, making the assumption that what I see on the screen is rarely even close. Also, I use CMYK color profiles in Corel Draw. You can call the technical support at Signwarehouse and they may have some additional profiles for you. I know they don't always post them up.

You are likely to also need profiles made for your output if you really want good color.

Color management is composed of Source profile (rgb1998, US WebCoatedSWOP), Destination profile (Mutoh 1604 IJ180 720 8p) and rendering intent (Relative Colormetric)
Know what these are. be consistent with every job, and you will have 90% of your color issues under control.

by and large, i just use the one base color profile and one rendering intent. then i just change up the printing profile, for whatever i'm printing on. for textiles, things vary a lot more than paper (textile lots are alot smaller than paper) so i have to use a few very broadly defined printing profiles. woven cotton, knit cotton, knit rayon etc. i have to print on new stuff every week. if i had to profile everything i print on, i wouldn't have time for anything else!

A profile is essentially a calibration of the media to the printer (ink set primarily), so different media will need different amounts of ink to get similar looks, also the 'whitepoint' of each media will be different requiring a different color 'correction' for each media.

For best results, you do need a profile for each case.
