Printer: Gerber Edge FX, Spring12 Pro, DFS
The Spring is a 12" web based Thermal Transfer Digital Press that is focused on the Label and Tag industry. The media is friction fed through the Spring12.
It has 6 Thermal Head Stations in line and can print up to 6 colors at a time.
As noted in my previous posts, it prints at 21¢ per color per square foot.
That is the cost for process color ribbons, Spot colors run between 21¢ to
50¢ per sq ft.
It can print at speeds up to 885 feet per hour. Speed is based on resolution.
Compared to other Thermal Transfer Printers in the market, it is the fastest, most economical and has the highest quality. Although we focus more on positioning the Spring12 as a Spot Color Printer, it does a nice job on producing process color halftones.
The Spring12 has a built in Variable Data Software option and an option called FlexPrint, which can take pre-printed shells printed on a Flexi Press and can add variable data elements or for printing additional special colors, such as metallic gold, silver or any special spot.
The Spring12 can print on a variety of substrates, even paper. It uses both Resin Ribbons & Wax-Resin Ribbons and has up to 30 colors, including Metallics.
The ribbons are 12" wide and 1640 ft long (Metallics are shorter). The Spring12 can handle up to a 19" OD roll on the in-feed.
The Spring 12 can print from one color up to six colors, but not more than 6 colors and requires a 10 ft leader of material to web the printer.
Because it can run for an extended amount of time, it requires a "chiller" to maintain a constant head temperature.
The Spring12 is available in several configurations starting out as a 4 color printer up to a 6 color printer with all the bells and whistles standard.
Prices range from $71,000 to $93,000. These prices include the cost of the chiller unit, which adds $4,000 to the price.
