Corel is an outstanding program at a much lower price than Illustrator. But, no matter what, if you receive files from clients, chances are you'll need Illustrator anyway just to open what they give you. I work exclusively in Corel Draw, but I do have a copy of Illustrator simply for opening files. It's a complete waste, and I don't like using it, but it is a necessary tool. I learned how to use Corel Draw first, which is probably why it's my preference. Illustrator's workflow just doesn't make sense to me.
