sounds like you need new bushings. They are a very consumable item on these printers and should be replaced about every 6-12 months on an active printer.

As a temporary measure, clean the metal shaft with denatured alcohol then spray some light lubricant on a paper towel and wipe the shaft. You may get a little more printing done before the bushings gunk up further.

Taking it apart and cleaning them will only leave your head sloppy and contribute to banding issues.
