All I know is that small jobs will kill you with sq ft pricing. You have to price them by time, so a small sign is never leaving my shop for less than $30.00 or we lose money in the long run. How do you account for the time to get the job via e-mail or phone, then dealing with a file and lastly the cost to invoice and the cost for accounting. Maybe $30.00 is just to cheap for anything these days.
