The only drying problems that I've had with my HP is when using the UV inks. Certain materials just do not like the UV ink (especially the Black ink). When I have had problems on UV compatible materials it was always when I was printing at Maximum Quality. Lowering the print quality setting down one solved the problem. I leave my heater setting on Auto (and yes, it never comes on.)
